I have a large collection of Japanese chisels, so if you don’t see what you’re looking for in my store, please send me a message and I will check my inventory. This is a rare Japanese chisel set that was hand-forged by Fujihiro aka Chutarou Imai. These chisels represent Mr Imai’s best work. They feature mokume, which is a type of Damascus steel where layers of different types of iron or steel are stacked, folded, and hammered to create a wood grain effect. The Damascus steel is laminated to a hard, high-carbon steel layer. The high-carbon steel provides an extremely sharp edge while the soft backing steel provides toughness and durability. Condition: Excellent used condition. There is a ding on the top corner of the Damascus steel layer on the 24mm chisel that doesn’t affect use. The handles have some marks on them. The chisels have been flattened, sharpened, and polished on a Japanese natural stone. The style is Oire Nomi, otherwise known as a standard bench chisel. This style of chisel is meant for general-purpose use and is suitable for carpentry and cabinetry work. With a metal hoop to prevent splitting of the wood handle, it is meant to be hit with a genno or metal hammer. Length: around 210mm 8 3/8. Bevel Angle: around 30°. Fujihiro – Chutarou Imai. Hard Steel: Shirogami #1 – Hiitachi White Paper Steel #1. Style: Oire Nomi (bench chisel). Handle Wood: Tagayasan or Japanese Ironwood marked with the name of the handle maker. Ferule: Rustic hand forged style. Hoop: Rustic hand forged style.
