This is a Japanese chisel made by master blacksmith Kakusaburo Ouchi, the second generation Ouchi, using traditional forging techniques with laminated steel construction. The high carbon steel provides an extremely sharp edge while the soft backing steel provides toughness and durability. Condition: New old stock. The chisels have never been sharpened or used and are in excellent condition, there are some light marks, stains, patina, etc from storage. As this is an unused item, you will need to set up and sharpen the chisels. These are as close to brand new as you will find for the age (likely 50+ years old). The style is Hiramachi or mortise side wall chisel. This type of chisel is designed for cleaning up the inside walls of mortises. The neck is thin and flat, which makes it easier to chop deeper into mortises than standard Japanese chisels. These are larger than standard hiramachis, roughly chu-tataki size. Length: 255mm 1?
