Handforged by Master Blacksmith Norikazu Takahashi, the 4th. Generation Takahashi of the renowned Kanetake forge, which has been in continuous operation for 140 years in Banshu Miki, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. The forge specializes in unusual chisel shapes, such as those used to make geta (wooden clogs) and musical instruments such as violins;as well as a wide range of carpenters chisels, carving gouges, kamisori (razors), marking knives and plane irons. Since the death of his father two years ago, Mr. He uses primarily White Paper Steel #2, and sometimes Blue Paper Steel. Every single tool is meticulously handforged by him;even down to the finish where he uses handfiles, instead of the usual power grinders. Takahashi does not coat the finished tool with the usual black varnish, believing that it is purely cosmetic and therefore unnecessary. His tools are therefore more susceptible to oxidization and should be kept lightly-oiled. He also does not wax the handles, making them less slippery. Unlike many other forges, where blanks are pressed or milled out by machine, resulting in a limited number of shapes and sizes;Mr. Takahashi’s process allows him the flexibility to take on custom orders, which includes a range of options on handle material and size, as well as ferrules and top hoops. Contact me if you are interested in a custom order. I guarantee your complete satisfaction. 1.5mm, 3mm, 6mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 30mm, 36mm, 42mm. White Paper Steel #2 laminated to soft iron.
