This exceptional chisel was hand-forged by Michio Taisai, the second-generation successor of the renowned Taisai family of blacksmiths in Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture. The Taisai Workshop, renowned for its craftsmanship in high-end chisels and specialized cutting tools, produces masterful tools that combine functionality with artistic excellence. Chisels of this ultra-narrow width are typically used for plane-mounting and precision woodworking. Despite their delicate size, they are forged from laminated steel. This represents a level of craftsmanship achievable only by Tasaï. According to Tasaï, when used correctly (avoiding lateral force), the blade will not break despite its thinness. About the maker, whose work is also considered art: Michio Tanishi (born 1969) is based in Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture, and is the son of master craftsman Akio Tanishi. As a second-generation swordsmith, he carries on traditional techniques, crafting high-end chisels, planes, hammers, specialty blades, and even custom orders.
