This rare, antique Japanese chisel set was hand-forged by Yoshihiro aka Suzuki Yoshigorou. Mr Yoshigorou was born around the turn of the century. These chisels bear the stamp of the Tokyo Chisel Cooperative. The high-carbon steel provides an extremely sharp edge while the soft backing steel provides toughness and durability. Condition: Good vintage used condition. They show signs of use, marks, stains, patina, etc, from age. Some of the chisels are a little shorter than others due to repeated sharpening. The handle on the 4mm is somewhat rought. The chisels have been flattened, polished, and sharpened on Japanese natural stone. The style is Oire Nomi, otherwise known as a standard bench chisel. This style of chisel is meant for general-purpose use and is suitable for carpentry and cabinetry work. With a metal hoop to prevent splitting of the wood handle, it is meant to be hit with a genno or metal hammer. 4mm? – this one appears to be a 6mm that was ground down by the previous owner.
