Up for grabs is a lovely professional WS2 traditional saw made roughly 40-50 years ago in Nagano prefecture by the esteemed & erstwhile smith Morozumi Chifuku. They were very good professional saws that were adored by daiku in those times. A beautiful thing about a traditional saw is it will force you to get better with your technique. This is due to its instant feedback and sensitivity. Immediately letting you know if your technique is poor/off. As such it is a saw for the professional, or the very serious student/hobbyist with care and passion for quality and history. It is a beautiful thing of the past. And a reflection of the quality of the tools used by master craftsmen then. Certainly not easily found or matched now and days/in todays market. And certainly to match the quality of saws of the past one must spend 2-3x the amount of original cost typically. The lovely saw had the pleasure of receiving metate for hardwood. The crosscut side will handle the traditional north american and some european tradition woods of cherry, maple, walnut, and mahogany. As well as other related woods beautifully. And as for the rip side it should handle slightly heavier woods and the addition of oak. And given the process of metate, the saw should cut like a laser. A beautiful thing to note. Due to the age of this saw, all of the movement that wouldve happened has already occurred and has been corrected with metate. So no worries about your new saw going out of flat. And of course hardened with age (sharper, longer lasting). Metate is the art of setting teeth, sharpening, tensioning the saw, straightening/trueing it, and repair/maintenance. Metate roughly makes 35% or the performance of a saw. It is a seperate trade altogether from saw making.
